Moving Through Stagnation ~ Tapas ~ The Fire Within
Tuesday Oct 22, 2019
Tuesday Oct 22, 2019
Today we invite you into our Shanti Yoga Training School, as we dive into one of the many concepts of yoga philosophy and how it affects our life. Nathalie teaches weekly zoom sessions to yoga students and teachers across the Globe, today you are our guest. Welcome to our training school.
Tapas is a big concept in yoga. Often translated as the “fire that burns within,” the discipline of tapas is one aspect that really resonates with Nathalie. She explains how the concept of tapas has assisted her through tough times.
The fact that we are alive, have a human body, have a consciousness, and have an awareness is quite a miracle. We should never take it for granted; it should always be treated as a gift. Nathalie says that when you see life in this way, you begin to be very grateful for everything that you are.
We all know somebody, or have been that person, who is never happy. They say they want something, they get it, but it’s not good enough. Nathalie reveals what to do if you’re in this mindset, including living in the present moment. Joy is a feeling that we can only have in the now.
Today Nathalie asks, what is it that’s holding you back? It’s time to rise above and move forward through the fire of your life. Sometimes our biggest failures are out biggest teachers, so surrender to the discomfort. You will come out as a better person.

Connecting To Divine Inspiration Through The Crown Chakra
Wednesday Sep 04, 2019
Wednesday Sep 04, 2019
This episode brings the seven-episode series about chakras to a conclusion.
Brooke Baudot returns again to provide her expertise on Sahasrara, otherwise known as the crown chakra.
Sahasrara is the lotus of one thousand petals.
We each have a lotus flower that is unique to us, and it is the essence of who we are. Nathalie says that a helpful meditation practice is to close your eyes and begin to imagine your lotus flower.
Journaling questions about your unique lotus flower:
How does it look? How does it feel? This flower is continuously evolving.
Brooke reads the balance characteristics of this chakra, and Nathalie jumps in to stress how important the ability to question is. The two then discuss why finding a connection is crucial, no matter how you refer to it.
When you tap into a frequency that is so clearly tied to the seventh chakra, you can allow other people to participate in it. If you have access to this type of frequency, it is your duty to share it with others. This is what Nathalie has devoted her life to.

#38 Yoga Tradition with Melanie Fawer Going Back To Mysore
Sunday Sep 23, 2018
Sunday Sep 23, 2018
Today’s guest is Melanie Fawer, an ashtanga yoga teacher who is certified by Pattabhi Jois. We hear about how her first trip to India made her fall in love with yoga, in part due to the differences she saw in it there compared to the US. That first trip to India was in 1994, so we discuss the changes that Melanie has seen in yoga since then.
Melanie teaches Mysore style yoga. She shares with us why it is so special to her and what exactly makes it unique. She continues to be impressed at how genius the style is. Then, we learn about the usefulness of led classes and other inspirations that Melanie draws from. Because ashtanga classes are sometimes taught incorrectly, we hear about this causing some people to falsely dislike it. A proper class takes a lot of observation from the teacher.
Only internally can we truly know when the next level of evolution needs to happen, which causes Melanie to share how we can find our true potential. It’s important to have a support group, but Melanie feels like she hasn’t had that foundation until about five years ago. Related to this, she offers advice on what to do on the days that feel gloomy.
An important aspect of Mysore style is connecting with one teacher; going to different studios and teachers may lead to selling yourself short. Melanie discusses this and points out what to keep in mind when starting Mysore style yoga.

#25 - Keep The Fire Burning with Angela Kukhahn
Tuesday Feb 06, 2018
Tuesday Feb 06, 2018
Angela Kukhahn joins Nathalie for a discussion all about yoga! Yoga lovers, especially teachers, will not want to miss this one. Nathalie and Angela talk about being a yoga teacher, tools and techniques developed along the way, and more.
As yogis and yoga teachers, we’re always growing and evolving. Our views on what was right at one point in time can easily change, and often do, over the years.
Angela shares what inspires her to inspire others while teaching and how to address the individual in a group setting.
We hear about the use of props like blocks, belts, and blankets. Props bring many benefits, although some people have concerns about their use. Is it right to want to stick with some yoga traditions from the past, or is it okay to evolve and accept the use of props?
Social media provides great opportunities to connect and share information. Angela tells us about the growth of her Instagram account to over 80,000 followers, the dedication involved with running such an account, and even how to deal with periodic negative comments.
Everybody is on their own spiritual journey, as yoga teachers, we can only share our own experiences and aim to create the best scenario possible for students to experience their own journey.
