#43 Ayurveda- Complete Wellness with Henri Folse

#43 Ayurveda- Complete Wellness with Henri Folse

January 1, 2019

Today we spend time with Henri Folse, an Ayurvedic health counselor. He looks at the foods that people are eating and helps them make incremental changes to improve their diet. Henri also helps people change the way that they eat, which he considers to be as important as what they eat.

Henri explains what eating Ayurvedically consists of and how it makes eating more sacred. We hear about what he goes over with patients who come to Henri for consultations that he offers both in his home and on Skype, beginning with an assessment of their eating and sleeping routines. Henri also explains the background of Ayurveda to help newcomers understand it and its relation to yoga.

We learn about the three different doshas which are integral in Ayurvedic medicine: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Henri says that these doshas can go out of balance within individuals and that Ayurvedic medicine is used to bring them back into balance. He then talks about how Vata, Pitta, and Kapha are based on the five elements.

Henri talks in-depth about his Ayurveda program and says that it is not about perfection, but about doing little things that will bring you more health, balance, and wellness in your life. Ayurveda is very practical, and Henri works hard to make it accessible to the people that go to him for help.

#2 Chris Galliano on Meditation, The Military, True Friendships, New Orleans and Dolphins in Hawaii

#2 Chris Galliano on Meditation, The Military, True Friendships, New Orleans and Dolphins in Hawaii

April 14, 2017

For this episode of Life On Earth, Nathalie is joined by the fascinating Chris Galliano. Chris tells us the story of how he ended up joining the military and talks about his time spent there, including working with dolphins who can find mines underwater. We hear about Chris’s time in Iraq and why he thinks it’s unlikely something like that will happen again. Nathalie shares her perspective on what it’s like to have a friend in the military and wondering if they’ll ever return home.

Getting into some deeper conversation, Nathalie and Chris talk about friends and family, religion, beliefs, life and death. The two share their love for New Orleans, its history, and the many events that take place there.

We hear about the benefits of meditation and stopping illnesses before they reach the physical body. Nathalie issues a simple challenge to smile at others with kindness and find something you love about them. Everything else fades away, leaving only peace and joy. The show concludes with talk about how we distract our minds with things like celebrity gossip and reality TV, how people are growing tired of it, and the benefits of focusing on something bigger.
