Martha Soffer is an Ayurvedic guru and Founder of Surya Spa.

She utilizes a system of practical and easy self-care, helping everyone attain balance and wellness through healing retreats, restorative beauty, wellness, and food products, as well as educational guidance and support.

For years, Martha worked in computer science. After a rough break up, Martha had the opportunity to study transcendental meditation, and fell in love with the benefits. It was a life changing event 31 years ago that set her on the path she is on now - a path of healing and helping others.

At Surya Spa, Martha practices Ayurvedic Panchakarma, a way of purging toxins from the body. Using what nature provides, Martha creates herbal treatments that are tailored to what each person needs. It’s commonly a 7-day process because there are 7 tissues that are worked on during the experience.

Panchakarma focuses on doshas, influenced by our environments, nutrition, and even location. Martha explains the 3 doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha) and what will be beneficial or detrimental for each person. For women, Martha wants you to embrace your womanhood.

Later, Martha and Nathalie discuss what you should be doing during a cleanse, connecting to the planet, and how you can begin with Panchakarma.

Today we spend time with Henri Folse, an Ayurvedic health counselor. He looks at the foods that people are eating and helps them make incremental changes to improve their diet. Henri also helps people change the way that they eat, which he considers to be as important as what they eat.

Henri explains what eating Ayurvedically consists of and how it makes eating more sacred. We hear about what he goes over with patients who come to Henri for consultations that he offers both in his home and on Skype, beginning with an assessment of their eating and sleeping routines. Henri also explains the background of Ayurveda to help newcomers understand it and its relation to yoga.

We learn about the three different doshas which are integral in Ayurvedic medicine: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Henri says that these doshas can go out of balance within individuals and that Ayurvedic medicine is used to bring them back into balance. He then talks about how Vata, Pitta, and Kapha are based on the five elements.

Henri talks in-depth about his Ayurveda program and says that it is not about perfection, but about doing little things that will bring you more health, balance, and wellness in your life. Ayurveda is very practical, and Henri works hard to make it accessible to the people that go to him for help.
